Orangutans live in the tropical Asian forests.

APPEARANCE:                                                                                                                                                          Orangutans are part of the ape family. Orangutans have a large bogy, very long arms, short legs and they do not have a tail. they have long brownish-red hair. Orangutans are different in apperance because the males have large cheek flaps, and the females do not. The male orangutans cheek flaps get larger as they get older.Orangutans  have senses very same as us such as hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Orangutans also have hands the same as ours, they have four long fingers and a thumb. Orangutans can grab things with both their hands and feet.

DIET:
Orangutans are omnivorous, this mean that they eat both plants and animals. Orangutans eat friut , leaves, nuts, insects, and they can sometimes eat small mammals when they are able to catch them. The orangutans favourite food is fruit, fruit makes up 65–90 percent of the orangutan diet. Orangutans dont need to leave their tree if they need a drink, the reason for this is because they can drink the water colected in the tree branches.

BEHAVIOUR:                                                                                                                                                        Orangutans spend most of their lives living by themselves. the male orangutans are very territorial. Orangutans need to have large areas to survive, because they do not tolerate with each other very well, because crowding causes them to fight among themselves, sometime because of the limited food supply.

POPULATION:                                                                                                                                                                The orangutans population is quickly decreasing, the reasons for orangutans decreasing is because they are losing their habitat to humans. Also the illgal trading is leading them to being extinct because the baby orangutans are being caught and sold around the world as pets. There is an estimated 30,000 orangutans left in the wild.

WHY ORANGUTANS ARE ENDANGERED?                                                                                                                            Orangutans are quicky heading towards extinction, there are many reasons for this, the first reason is humans are catching them and selling baby orangutans to be sold around the world for pets. Secondly orangutans are being hunted by humans. Thirdly the orangutans habitat is slowly disappearing because they are being logged for housing and the trees are being used for palm oil plantations, the land is also used for farms. Lastly humans are killing the Orangutans prey such as small mammals. All these reasons will soon make the orangutan population become extinct if they are not stopped soon.
